Heat pumps are everywhere in Japan. They’re advertised constantly on TV (as they are all over Asia, see this playlist). And their condensers are crammed everywhere, visible from the street: wedged into the tightest spots, on balconies, ledges, wherever they can fit, even just right on the sidewalk.

I was constantly amazed by the prominence of these condensers, and (in some cases) the thought that went into placing them. Here’s some condenser street art for you – photos I took on our trip, mostly in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.
