We commissioned this poster to promote Boston.com, right after we launched in the fall of 1995. Actually our PR firm pitched us on the idea, which was to get a variety of local artists to interpret the usefulness of the Internet in a mosaic form. A grassroots marketing idea. We spent around $150k on the project, on the artists and to display the posters in Boston’s underground “T” subway stations.
The poster was a total failure as advertising (too detailed, no focal point to catch a busy commuters’ eye). But it was not a failure as art!
