Traditional Journalists

Notes

The forty folks above are my own personal clean energy playlist. Many were traditional journalists before they went out on their own. Others are analysts, academics, entrepreneurs, consultants, or activists. And the mix changes by the day. Newsletter writers are adding podcasts. Podcasts are adding video. Paywalls go up and down (usually up).

Since I started assembling this list, Doug Lewin of the great Energy Capital Podcast took a job at Google working on data centers, so he’s off. Sammy Roth left the LA Times to start his own newsletter. Saul Griffith started a newsletter, and a podcast. Jigar Shah started podcasting again.

Who is the audience for these folks? Probably a mix of insiders, policy makers and power brokers, techies, true believers and the occasional member of the general public. There’s lots of money at stake here (not to mention the future of the planet), and everyone’s scrambling to keep up with the amazing progress happening in technology and around the world, while reacting to the backsliding happening in the U.S.

Please support these folks financially if you can, with a subscription or donation. Some make money off a paywall, or sponsorships, or a day job. Others aren’t making much (or any) money at all, but doing this as a labor of love.

Staying power is what we all need right now in the clean energy world, so I hope everyone on this list has it in 2026. Do what you need to do to keep going… we need your voices!
